Overview of Role
Working with senior management the HSE coordinator will assist the company to maintain the maximum degree of health, safety and environmental responsibilities, ensuring in-house and site systems are relevant, communicated, trained and enforced.
The role is to assist in ensuring compliance with all applicable legal and regulatory requirements, promote a safe and healthy working environment, and actively monitor and support efforts to minimise environmental impact. The role has clear progression lines to the HSE manager for the right candidate.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
Your responsibilities will include:
● Managing the company's health and safety systems, including risk assessments,
COSHH, documenting and implementation of control measures and improvements.
● Maintaining accurate and timely records, audits, reports, updates, and performance
monitoring.
● Acting as a visible presence in-house by carrying out weekly inspections, testing and
promoting a positive safety culture.
● Mentoring Managers and training staff, including contributing to the induction of new
employees to ensure ownership of risk and consistent health and safety standards in-house
and on sites.
● Coordinating in-house activities, including hot works permits, contractors documentation and
compliance requirements.
● Providing oversight of site H&S activities, empowering staff to manage risks, through effective
documentation, communication and engagement with shareholders.
● Investigating incidents and near misses in the business, recommending improvements and
reporting RIDDOR as appropriate.
Key Responsibilities - Environmental & Sustainability
● Assessing the business's environmental impact, recommending processes and procedural
changes to reduce impact and improve standing.
● Leading the business through ISO and other relevant accreditation applications.
● Maintaining a professional appearance and attitude at all times, representing the company
positively and promoting best practice.
Other responsibilities include:
● Champion a pragmatic HSE approach that balances compliance with practical, effective
solutions.
● Occasional site visits to assess compliance and effectiveness of H&S.
● If desired, trained as a first aider and mental health first aider.
General responsibilities:
● Compliance with company policies and procedures at all times
● As business needs dictate, the postholder may be required to undertake additional duties of a
level commensurate with their existing responsibility
Essential Requirements
NEBOSH or ISOH qualifications - with scope to further these in the future
● Experience in leading a business through environmental and sustainability improvements
● Understanding of the events industry regulations, including LOLER, BS7909
● A robust knowledge of Health and Safety at work
● Excellent communication skills
● Ability to work well as part of a team, but also individually
● Effective time management and organisational skills with the ability to multi-task and
prioritise workload effectively
● A positive 'can-do' attitude
● Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to work and present to stakeholders at different
levels
● Excellent attention to detail
● Good standard of personal presentation
● Ability to work occasional additional hours as business needs dictate
● Ability to promote working in an inclusive manner
● Compliance with company policies, health and safety requirements and relevant legislation
