Pall Europe
Acorn was successful in winning the bid to supply Pall Newquay's temporary staff in late October 2013 which involved the supply of over 140 semi-skilled candidates on-site in a clean room environment producing blood transfusion kits.
The complexity of the roles and the remote geographic location made it a challenging contract, but through constant continuous improvement initiatives we significantly reduced the cost per hire for Pall whilst also reducing the time to fill from requisition to start date, which had been the main issue with the previous supplier.
Our open two way communication with the Pall Team which includes multiple weekly teams meetings with key stakeholders to report on candidate attraction and retention forms a key part of the continuing success of this contract.
In addition, we were awarded the contract to supply temporary staff to Pall’s avionics base in Redruth in 2016, and in 2018 this was extended so that we are now also responsible for the supply of Redruth’s contractors who are specialist Air Frame Fitters.
Also, in 2018 Acorn opened a branch in Portsmouth, specifically to service Pall’s Walton Road factory and their Head Office based at Harbourgate, where we initially supplied specialist temporary workers and contractors into HR, Finance, IT, Operational and Medical roles.
During the last 3 years the partnership between Acorn and Pall has developed further, predominantly in reaction to the candidate market in the UK, and now Pall look to recruit on a permanent as well as temporary basis via Acorn to attract the necessary level of talent / experience.
Currently, Acorn is placing more than 30 permanent candidates a month across Pall’s five sites in the UK the majority of whom are either employed at Pall Newquay of Pall Ilfracombe.
Since the start of our partnership in 2013 we have now become Pall’s largest supplier of staff in Europe and have supplied more than 2500 staff of which over 900 have secured permanent roles, testament to the quality of candidate we supply.
We currently supply over 500 temporary staff a day across 5 sites in the UK and one in Holland and have an onsite Account Management team of 8 people across these 6 sites.
Acorn’s methodology was to combine an onsite presence at each Pall site (initially Newquay) with the backup and local expertise of our branch network (initially our Truro branch). The complexity of the roles and the remote geographic location made it a challenging contract, but through constant continuous improvement initiatives we significantly reduced the cost per hire for Pall whilst also reducing the time to fill from requisition to start date, which had been the main issue with the previous supplier.
This model has now been replicated across Pall’s UK operations – onsite teams combined with local branches so that Acorn becomes an extension of the HR function whilst utilising the advantages of local physical presence to attract candidates.
Our initial work with Pall in 2013 started 3 months before Contract start date to ensure that there was a detailed implementation program resulting in a smooth transition from the incumbent supplier to Acorn.
